Los Angeles, Nov. 02, 2026 — President Donald Trump has been trying to undermine trust in the integrity of elections, especially in California. Unfortunately, the state is playing right into his hands by placing a veil of secrecy over polling stations and suggesting photography is prohibited outside.

Adam Rose, deputy director of advocacy for Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF), wrote to California’s top election official explaining that Trump “has provided the public no credible reason to believe his posturing — but your office is handing him one.”

Our letter joins a growing outcry in the state from our friends, including the First Amendment Coalition, ACLU of Northern California, National Press Photographers Association, and numerous news organizations.
