Today, Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF) is unveiling a new website that reflects our commitment to action-based advocacy for press freedom. FPF’s website was last relaunched in December 2016, just after the election of Donald Trump as U.S. president. Needless to say, a lot has happened since then.
No matter how this year’s election ends, we know that many battles to protect journalists and their sources lie ahead. Congress must pass the PRESS Act, the most important press freedom bill in modern history. The U.S. government classifies far too many secrets, obstructing democracy. And far too often, the police are arresting journalists simply for doing their job.
Our new design puts these and other key issues front and center. With this groundwork in place, we will soon build new tools for you to reach out to decision-makers who can help us protect the press, whether those decision-makers are in Congress, a state legislature, or a corporate boardroom.
The new design also gives more visibility to our other flagship programs: our technology work (including SecureDrop, an open source whistleblower submission platform), the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker, and our work to provide digital security education to journalists.
For this redesign, we worked with Wide Eye, a creative digital agency specializing in design, branding, and websites for change-makers and visionaries. The technical implementation was led by our in-house web development team in close partnership with our editorial team.
As you might expect, a lot of things have moved around. We have done our best to prevent old links from breaking, but if something looks odd or broken, it’s probably not by design! Please don’t hesitate to let us know, and we’ll fix things as soon as possible.
We’re excited for you to explore the new site and join us in the fight to protect the public’s right to know.
