Whistleblowers are essential to a free and unfettered press.

Whistleblowers play a critical role in informing the public and holding the government to account.

Sources who act out of conscience to leak information to the press further our democracy. Whistleblowers like Daniel Ellsberg, Chelsea Manning, and Edward Snowden, have exposed some of our government’s gravest abuses.

Unfortunately, whistleblowers are often prosecuted and jailed. That’s wrong. Whistleblowers and the journalists they work with should be celebrated, not punished.

Write a letter to lawmakers to stop the deportation of Heng Guan

Tell lawmakers to stop the Trump administration from deporting the man who helped journalists expose the horrors of Uyghur camps in Xinjiang, China. His life could be at risk.

Edit this message so that it is unique to you: Dear Member of Congress, I am deeply disturbed by reports that the Trump administration is seeking to deport Heng Guan, an asylum-seeker with a work permit who helped journalists expose the secret Uyghur prison camps in Xinjiang, China. Guan put his life at risk to document these atrocities up close so they couldn’t be denied. He worked in collaboration with U.S. journalists to tell the world the truth. He’s exactly the kind of person asylum laws are intended to protect. The next hearing in Guan’s case is Jan. 12. He could be sent to Uganda, placing him at risk of being shipped back to China, where, according to his mother, he’d likely be killed. As your constituent, I urge you to immediately, loudly, and persistently speak out against deporting Guan and in favor of granting him asylum. Deporting him would not only put his life at grave risk but would contradict everything this country supposedly stands for.
