Apple’s threat notifications, and you

The digital rights nonprofit Access Now, which helms an around-the-clock digital security helpline, wrote up an explainer to help users interpret Apple’s recent notifications about mercenary malware. Companies that sell malware variants include NSO Group, Cytrox, and Paragon. Access Now notes that these alerts do not let you know whether the attempt at compromising a device succeeded, nor who was behind the attack — only that the attempt was made.
