WikiLeaks is an independent, not-for-profit online publisher that works to defend freedom of speech, media publishing and the improvement of our common historical record. WikiLeaks publishes documents of social, historical and political value that other organisations are unwilling to publish in full. It publishes original source material alongside news stories so that readers and historians alike can see evidence of the truth.
Through its publications, totalling millions of documents, WikiLeaks has shed light on hundreds of thousands of killings and billions of dollars' worth of corruption, some highlights are: a collection of 250,000+ diplomatic cables between the U.S. State Department and U.S. embassies around the world, hundreds of thousands of classified documents related to the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars, more than two million emails from Syrian political figures, ministries and associated companies, internal documents from the Church of Scientology, the loan book and other documents evidencing corruption by the largest bank in Iceland, and many more.
WikiLeaks has suffered under a financial blockade by PayPal, Visa and Mastercard. This unjust and extra-judicial censorship has been a major source of inspiration for the Freedom of the Press Foundation.
Project: Preparing to Publish 1 Million Documents
Your donation to WikiLeaks will ensure its survival through 2013 and will go towards: publishing, investigations, submissions system development, increasing infrastructure and publishing pipeline, and WikiLeaks staff wages. As WikiLeaks said in a statement to Freedom of the Press Foundation, “in 2010 WikiLeaks published around 600,000 documents, in 2011 we published approximately 250,000 documents, in 2012 we have published around 460,000. In 2013 we are already scheduled to publish over one million documents this year—more than all of these years combined. The documents also contain references to every country.” Your donation will be used for the above journalism costs only, and according to WikiLeaks, there is and will be no cross-funding between your donation for journalism costs and their staff legal costs.
